Selling a Horsebox - 10 Helpful Pointers

January 24, 2010
Selling a Horsebox or Trailer can be just as daunting as trying to sell a car or any vehicle for that matter; you want a quick sale, at the right price and without the hassle of time wasters. And advertising your horsebox for sale doesn't have to be a nightmare.
Here are some helpful pointers to ensure you get the best price and secure a quick sale.

1. Clean the inside and outside of your lorry - wash it, sweep it and tidy the cab, make it presentable! No one will buy a dirty lorry!

2. Make sure you have a good advert and a good place to advertise try Horsewizard.co.uk and this will create lots of interest in your lorry.

3. Highlight all the good points:
  • Power steering,
  • Living area,
  • How many it sleeps,
  • TV, WC, etc.
  • How many horses / ponies it carries,
  • When it was serviced /Plated / MOT
  • If you have made any recent adjustments,
  • Good on diesel
4. Remember to include your mobile/landline and email so you are always contactable, and do call people back if they leave a message for you every caller is a potential buyer and try to sound happy and nice down the phone - you don't want to scare anyone off!

5. When you have a potential customer come to view your Horsebox for sale make sure you have all your paper work to hand.

6. Go through all the horseboxes good points, how easy it is to drive, starts every time, good solid flooring etc.

7. When taking the lorry for a test drive make sure you as the seller drive it first to show how easy you find driving it because sometimes we find it hard driving a new vehicle.

8. Remember if someone is interested and wants a deal, makes an offer don't accept the first price they come up with you may want to sell it but don't sell it for less than it's worth barter back.

10. When you do sell your Horsebox make sure you take a deposit and have a written agreement.

When the buyer comes to collect the lorry have a written receipt ready, include the date sold, amount, make and model of lorry or trailer and always include the all important - sold as seen - always have cash as cheques can be canceled and count the cash. This may seem rude to some people but it's better to be safe than sorry!
